Are you feeling more overwhelmed than relaxed this summer?
It might sound surprising, but outside of Christmas, summer can actually be one of the busiest and most stressful times of year.
If you’ve been feeling unusually tired, overwhelmed or wondering why everyone else seems to be enjoying summer more than you are, you’re certainly not alone.
When we picture summer, we tend to imagine long sunny evenings, holidays, barbecues, time in the garden and life feeling a little easier.
The reality can be very different.

The Hidden Pressures of Summer
Summer often brings a whole new set of demands.
The children are off school.
Holiday planning needs organising.
Family visits increase.
The garden suddenly needs constant attention.
Weekends quickly fill with social events, weddings and BBQs.
Work doesn’t necessarily slow down either, meaning many of us are trying to fit even more into the same number of hours.
Then there are the warmer nights that leave us sleeping less well, disrupted routines, travel, financial pressures and the constant feeling that we should be making the most of every sunny day.
It’s exhausting.
–
The Comparison Trap
Social media can make summer feel even heavier.
Scroll through Facebook or Instagram and it can seem as though everyone else is enjoying perfect holidays, beautiful gardens, endless family days out and picture-perfect evenings in the sunshine.
It’s easy to wonder why you feel stressed while everyone else appears to be thriving.
The truth is you’re usually seeing someone’s highlight reel, not the reality behind it.
Very few people post about the arguments before the family holiday, the sleepless nights, the financial worries, the overflowing washing basket or the sheer mental load that often comes with summer.

Your Nervous System Doesn’t Know It’s Summer
Many people expect to feel naturally happier when the sun comes out.
But our nervous system doesn’t work according to the calendar.
If you’ve spent months carrying stress, juggling responsibilities or putting everyone else’s needs before your own, summer doesn’t magically reset your energy.
Often it’s the point where your mind and body finally begin telling you they’ve had enough.
–
You might notice:
- Feeling permanently tired, even after sleeping
- Becoming more irritable or emotional
- Struggling to switch off
- Feeling guilty for wanting time alone
- Finding it difficult to concentrate
- Feeling disconnected from yourself
- Knowing something doesn’t feel quite right, even if you can’t explain why
–
This is something I often hear from clients.
They don’t necessarily describe themselves as burnt out.
Instead they simply say:
“I don’t quite feel like me anymore.”

Small Pauses Can Make a Big Difference
When life feels full, our instinct is often to keep pushing.
Ironically, that’s usually when we need to slow down the most.
Even ten minutes spent sitting quietly in the garden, taking a mindful walk, switching off your phone or simply breathing deeply can begin calming an overwhelmed nervous system.
Small moments of restoration throughout the day are often far more powerful than waiting for the perfect holiday.

Giving Yourself Permission to Rest and Reset
Sometimes, though, we need a little more support.
This is where many people discover the difference that holistic wellbeing can make.
Sometimes, though, we need a little more support.
This is where many people discover the difference that energy healing can make. Treatments such as Reiki & Crystal Healing and Angelic Reiki give you permission to slow down completely while your body and mind enter a deeply restorative state. Many people leave feeling lighter, calmer and more balanced than when they arrived.
A regular meditation practice can also help quieten a busy mind and create space to breathe again. My guided meditation evenings in Gamlingay, Biggleswade and St Neots are designed to help you relax deeply, reconnect with yourself and leave feeling calmer and more grounded.
And if you’ve reached the point where you know something needs to change, but you’re unsure where to begin, life coaching can help you untangle what’s really going on beneath the surface, gain clarity and move forward with renewed confidence. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give ourselves is permission to stop surviving and start living more intentionally.
